Tips for Staying Healthy as COVID-19 and Flu Season Continue
1/26/2021 (Permalink)
For the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged business owners and homeowners to adapt to new ways of life and working, without risking exposure to the highly contagious virus. Now with flu season being upon us, it is even more important to stay vigilant about following cleaning and disinfecting protocols to keep you, and your family safe and healthy.
Scientists at the CDC believe that both COVID-19 and the seasonal flu are primarily spread by droplets that are produced when infected people cough, sneeze or talk. Scientists also believe that individuals can contract the flu and COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has virus particles on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes as well. While the CDC continues to recommend getting a yearly flu vaccine to aid in protection from flu viruses, experts also emphasize the important of cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces frequently such as tables, door handles, light switches, countertops, phones, sinks, toilets and keyboards can help mitigate the potential spread from these contaminated surfaces.
To help control the spread of these viruses and limit exposure, the CDC recommends that you wash your hands frequently for 60 seconds at a time, or when washing your hands is not an option, using hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol. As well as keeping your hands away from your face and eyes, and wearing a mask or even gloves to protect others.
For daily effective cleaning at home or at work, start by washing down surfaces with soap and water, then follow up with a disinfectant.
